Understanding the CKC point system

The pointing system in Canada is fairly straight forward. Your dog needs to earn a total of 10 points to become a champion. Of these 10 points, they must win at least one major (earning two or more points) and have aquired points from at least three different judges.

The first point system starts at WINNERS, and is based on the TOTAL number of dogs competing (including the dog that takes Winners).

The point system is as follows:

Dogs
Competing

1
3-5
6-9
10-12
13 or More
Points
0
2
3
4
5

To determine the total points available add up all the dogs from all the classes (Puppy, Bred By, Canadian Bred, Open and Specials) and subtract any absent dogs.

Group Level Points
If your dog wins BEST OF WINNERS they move on to the group judging. Just like at breed level, the points earned are determined by how many dogs you defeat.

The following is the CKC table for Group points:

Number of Breeds 1st place 2nd place 3rd place 4th place

If your dog takes BEST IN GROUP, they move on to BEST IN SHOW competing against all other GROUP Winners.

Note: A dog can not win more than 5 points at a show in one day.
